So I should be able to set the RTC with the correct time and never set it again (battery dependant) Then send the unit out in the field and with a reed switch connected to the interrupt pin, wake the uno up. It is a simple clock with LCD display, an RTC (real time clock) and 3 buttons. For convenience and to save Arduino pins, I used a display with I2C module. The RTC also uses the I2C protocol. The 3 buttons, connected to a "pull down" circuit, are used to adjust or change the time and date of the watch, without having to reload the Arduino code.
I am trying to set the time on my DS3231, then read that time on my arduino nano. This is for a digital clock project. I am using DS3232 library by JChristensen. He has an example that can set the DS3231 time through the serial monitor, and it works great, but I don't understand how to implement it into my sketch.

hello, I mean like a digital clock has one line for time and only the last number changes until it changes the minute and then hours. I have also noticed the ds3231 doesn't keep the time with this code as the time stops and starts when you open and close the serial monitor. and the time keeps going when I detach the RTC. Before using the DS3231 rtc module, we need to first update it’s time and date settings. This is done by connecting the RTC module to an Arduino board and using already made libraries, we can be able to see the set time and date on the serial monitor.
